4th Annual Medical Malpractice Insurance ExecuSummit - September 16 & 17, 2008

March, 2008

Dear Medical Malpractice Professional:

I am looking forward to seeing you at our 4th Annual Medical Malpractice Insurance ExecuSummit on September 16 & 17, 2008. The Summit will be held at the amazing Mohegan Sun Hotel, Casino & Spa in Uncasville, Ct. Thanks to the feedback and comments shared by last year’s attendees, and the obvious fact that we have outgrown our space in New York City due to the standing room only crowd, we have moved or venue to the new gambling capital of the world.

As always, it has been a pleasure arranging this year’s list of distinguished speakers. This is the fourth year I have been involved as chair of this conference and I continue to be amazed at the growing interest in our educational summit. We continue to identify new speakers and topics based on the feedback of our presenters and prior attendees. Thank you.

I do believe we are well on our way to growing this conference into the Northeast’s premier educational event focused on medical malpractice training, thought leadership, emerging issues, trends, networking and relationship building. I couldn’t be prouder of the topics and issues we have discussed at prior events. It is very rewarding to see some of our prior year “emerging issues” and “trends” coming to fruition.

As I noted last year, I included the following text in a patient safety document I sent to the actuarial profession in January 2005:

“I believe the time has come for our profession to join the patient safety battle.  Whether actuaries help quantify the potential benefits of certain medical error prevention techniques, join patient safety organizations, build eminence through articles and papers, or promote “right pricing” through the use of data mining techniques aimed at driving changes in healthcare provider patient safety habits, our profession should be playing an active role in shaping patient safety initiatives.  With the effort of a few, I strongly believe the actuarial profession can shift from “looking out the rear view mirror” to a focus on preventing healthcare errors in the first place.”

With the effort of a few ExecuSummit attendees and speakers, I think we can make a difference in addressing patient safety, risk management, injury prevention, affordability and availability of healthcare in the United States. Safe travels and see you in September.

Sincerely,
